I recently learned that elderberry has a hardwood exterior and a soft inner core that is easily drilled out. It's the wrong time of year to harvest live wood so I've been practicing on dead pieces I've collected from the forest. The bell is a bit small to be a loud horn but it projects fairly well for what it is. Eventually I shall craft myself a flute and do some proper carving on it.
